Art Noir Contest Closes
All entries for the Big Read Art Noir Contest are to be submitted to the Sheldon Museum with winners announced on April 2, 2010.

Reading is Fun for Seniors
12:30 pm at the Senior Center
Various community members will read and discuss excerpts of The Maltese Falcon.

Sheldon Museum Website Trivia Contest
Look for trivia questions about The Maltese Falcon and The Malted Falcon on this website and in the Chilkat Valley News. Prizes awarded for the first correct answers.

Kick-Off Opening of the Big Read
7pm at the Haines School (note: no longer at the Library)
Haines Middle School Students will perform Murder in the Knife Room, announcements will be made for the Writing and the Kids Art Contest.

Haines Middle School Performance of Murder in the Knife Room
10am at the Mosquito Lake School and 1pm at the Klukwan School Library.

Haines School Literature Class reads The Maltese Falcon
The Haines High School Amercian Literature Class will focus on The Maltese Falcon.

Celebrate National Reading Day
at the Haines Borough Public Library and Klukwan School Library with The Maltese Falcon Readathon. Enjoy refreshments and listen to community members read from the book all day long. Sign up at the Library to participate!

Tlingit Mystery Storytelling
7pm at the Sheldon Museum
Tlingit mystery stories will be told by Tlingit elders during the Sheldon Museum's Tlingit Language Classes.

Mystery Crafts
3:30pm at the Haines Borough Library and the Klukwan School Library
After school crafts and readings from The Maltese Falcon and The Malted Falcon. Materials Provided.

Mystery Movie Night
7pm at the Haines Borough Library and the Klukwan School Library
Join others for nights of mystery and intrigue.
Klukwan Library Movie Titles: no movie March 5th, The Pink Panther, and The Pink Panther 2.

Legal Eyes Book Discussion
Law Enforcement officers/detectives will visit the Haines School, Mosquito Lake School and Klukwan School Library to discuss their jobs and crime scenes in The Maltese Falcon.

Murder at the Sheldon Museum
1-4pm, or contact us to schedule a special tour
Who dunnit? Solve a crime in true Sam Spade style. Investigate, sift through the clues and put it all together. Oh, and don't forget the suave attitude! Reward offered for those who solve the crime!

2-4pm at the Sheldon Museum
This month featuring old time 1930s & 4Os era songs performed by Amelia Nash and Julie Cozzi
to complement the Big Read. Join us for this free entertaining monthly program featuring local singers, music, poetry, readings and much more!

Mystery Theatre Night "Bull in a China Shop"
7pm at the Chilkat Center
Mystery! Murder! Mayhem! What more can you want? Join the Lynn Canal Community Players for a performance of Bull in a China Shop, a fundraiser for the Sheldon Museum's Big Read.

The Big Read Final Event
7pm at the Sheldon Museum
Join us for Special guest speakers, local jazz musicians, refreshments and a book discussions of The Maltese Falcon. Winners of the Big Reading Writing and Art contests will be announced.

The BIG READ is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of its citizens. The BIG READ brings together partners across the country to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment.


Where can I get a book?
Books will be available at the Big Read events, the Sheldon Museum, the Haines Public Library and the Klukwan Community Library, and for sale from the Babbling Book and other outlets on-line.
