Our Mission
The purpose of the Sheldon Museum and Cultural Center, Inc., an educational institution of the Haines Borough, is committed to collecting, preserving and interpreting through history, art and unique blending of diverse cultures within the Chilkat Valley. The Sheldon Museum's presentation of artifacts, clan trust property, and memorabilia enhances quality of life for area residents and visitors; informs researchers and historians; inspires artists and creative writers; and encourages community pride through permanent, temporary, and traveling exhibits, and through a variety of programs for schools and the public.

MUSEUM GALLERIES CLOSED

CHILDREN'S INTERACTIVE
LEARNING CENTER:
January 12th - 31st, 2009

This exciting exhibit features fun, hands-on activities related to the history of Haines and the surrounding area, for children ages 3-12.

Available during regular gallery hours
(Mon-Sat. 1-4pm)

CIVIL RIGHTS EXHIBIT:
January 15 - February 16th, 2009

Learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. and Alaska's own Elizabeth Peratrovich. This exhibit is featured as part of the Museum's new "children's corner."

HISTORY DAY EXHIBITS:
February 8th - 13th, 2009
Open House & Awards Ceremony:
February 8th, 2009, 2-4pm

Features exhibits made by local 6th grade students as part of the National History Day Competition held annually.
