Behind the Scenes
Caring for Our Collections
Collections staff work behind the scenes to preserve and safeguard the museums permanent collection. This includes:
- Processing incoming object donations
- Condition reports of objects
- Catalog and inventory of the collection using PastPerfect Software system
- And more!
Special Projects
As part of our mission, the staff of the Haines Sheldon Museum are constantly working on special projects to safeguard our collections. Many of these larger projects are funded by grants, such as the Collections Management Fund from Museums Alaska. Projects updates are announced in our newsletter, social media, and local media when they are underway.
You can learn about any current projects in the what’s new section of our website.
Volunteer in Collections!
There is always work to do! We can engage willing hands to help process new items or rehouse our existing collections. Of course, some training is required. To volunteer in the HSM collection, please contact HSM Collections Manager, Zack James.
