Haines Science Camp is a series of science based summer camps for children in kindergarten to grade 7. These camps focus on hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, and encourage creativity. The children of today will be the scientists, engineers, naturalists, and teachers of tomorrow. In addition to being a lot of fun, these camps foster a sense of community, build vital STEM skills, and inspire young minds to take an interest in science and the world around them. Sign your child up for a Haines Science Camp and give them a memorable summer experience that they will truly enjoy.
There are 10 spaces available per week for the K-7 camps.

Camp Descriptions
Invention Convention Camp Grades 3-5
- Students will conduct science experiments and create objects that show them how the laws of physics govern our world. The camp encourages creativity and ingenuity all while helping students to learn scientific principles. We will be making catapults, boats, parachutes and much more!
- Do you love experiments? I mean really cool, explosive, colorful, bubbly, moldy experiments? Then you should definitely participate in Mad Scientist Camp! This camp is all about hands-on experiments. We will make milk change colors, blow up balloons using yeast, and even discover what mold looks like up close! If you want an explosively fun summer, join Mad Scientist Camp!
- For centuries, artist have pulled inspiration from the natural world to create masterpieces. This camp helps kids channel their creativity to make artwork about, and artwork with nature. We will make plant prints, natural dyes for tie-dye shirts, rock sculptures, and more! Unleash your inner Picasso with the Nature Art Camp!
- Do you like to go into the wilderness, but fear never having the right gear? Then this is the camp for you! Learn how to create survival kits, natural shelters and more than one way to start a fire. Reading maps and using GPS are additional skills that help people come out of the wilds in one piece. Join Haines Science Camp and gain confidence in your wilderness treks!
Registration and Payment
All parents/guardians must fill out a registration packet and drop it off at the museum by the first day of camp. If you want your student to have a spot in the camp they wish to attend, you must purchase the spot with the links below before they fill up! If you have any questions, call Cory at 766-2366.

Where are the summer camps located?
- Drop-off and pick-up for the summer camps are at the Haines Sheldon Museum. The Museum has a specifically designed childrens room for indoor activities and rainy days, and behind the museum is a back yard for outdoor experiments and play. Campers will also visit locations like the beach, Tlingit park, and local gardens.
When do I pick-up or drop-off my child?
- Drop-off for camps for kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade is between nine and ten in the morning and pick-up is between two and three in the afternoon. Students need to be signed in and out of camp by an adult, unless an alternate plan has been discussed with the camp director.
What does my child need to bring?
- You need to send your child to camp with a sack lunch, a water bottle, and appropriate clothing for the weather (it is always smart to send dry pants and a rain-coat as some days we go to the beach). I also ask that kids wear good outdoor shoes for walking. Specific material lists vary by camp, so it is possible additional items may be needed by your child.
