The Haines Sheldon Museum’s programs and exhibits are significant assets to our community’s quality of life. But one Haines group can’t get in our museum building!
With five levels, steep steps, no elevator, narrow doors, and small bathrooms, our community’s museum is a challenge for someone with mobility issues.
- 21% of Haines residents are 65 or older.
- 12.3% of the Haines population under age 60 is disabled.
- Volunteers, many with mobility challenges, keep our doors open.
- 6,288 Haines residents enter the museum each year.
- 6-8 new exhibits each year, lecture series, and evening programing make us a valuable part of Haines’ community and excellent quality of life.
Mobility challenged former volunteer Daphne Ormerod stated, “If I could get in, I would go more.”
Accessibility is a critical need for your museum. It’s time to do something about this.
The “Lift Me Up!” campaign will fund the installation of an elevator and handicap bathrooms at the Haines Sheldon Museum. Help us launch this project with a generous contribution today. Be a part of our solution!
